The Five Oberons, Cons I’m attending, What I’m reading
Spring sprung ‘round here
Slightly out-o-focus but still happy to get this pic of a wild turkey crossing a field before planting.

The snow has mostly melted away and it’s a mud bog out there. But yay warmth! And BIRDS! I’ve seen a few. Gonna see more. I was very happy to catch that wild turkey you see in the banner. Hoping to find some great lil dudes at the bird sanctuary as soon as the ground firms up a bit. But right now, before the algae blooms in the marshes, the water is super clear and you can see cute little muskrat friends bopping around. Lookit!

This little bud sure is happy it’s getting warmer.

So heck, what’s up? I mean besides the daily crises. The big news for me since last month is that Oberon’s Bathtime Stories is out, and you can find it in print, ebook, and audio everywhere now. If you’ve already enjoyed it, dropping a review online would help muy mucho, and thank you! I’ve been hearing from folks that they love ‘em and their kids do too, so that makes me happy.

Speaking of happiness: If you’re a paid subscriber, you can download your free audiobook copy of Oberon’s Bathtime Stories now! Instructions are in last month’s story, "Gladys and the Endling.” And I mention it here because only 60% of y’all opened it and maybe you opened this and didn’t realize what you missed. Go download your audiobook!

The folks at Horned Lark Press noticed some folks were buying Bathtime Stories and Oberon’s Meaty Mysteries together, so they put them together as a package deal called The Five Oberons, which gets you $22 off in the US and $49 off in Canada. You’ll get all five books signed by me, plus an Iron Druid bookmark and sticker. So yay if you’d like to take advantage of that!

I’m sticking close to home for the summer and looking forward to Mom paying a visit, but this fall I will be attending two conventions in Canada if you’d like to come say hi and hobnob: Can*Con in Ottawa in October, and Hal-Con in Halifax in November! Would be rad to see you.

(If you suspected that I just wanted to say hobnob for fun, you deserve a snack. Yesterday I wanted to hobnob with Bob and eat corn on the cob and he said no prob.)

My heartiest entertainment recommendation: The Residence on Netflix. Absolutely delightful whodunit with super fun characters and a detective who’s a birder! Looking forward to enjoying Murderbot next month!

But heck, what are you reading now? I’m enjoying the new one from Stephen Graham Jones:

The Buffalo Hunter Hunter

An instant New York Times bestseller, a chilling historical horror novel tracing the life of a vampire who haunts the fields of the Blackfeet reservation looking for justice.

A diary, written in 1912 by a Lutheran pastor is discovered within a wall. What it unveils is a slow massacre, a chain of events that go back to 217 Blackfeet dead in the snow. Told in transcribed interviews by a Blackfeet named Good Stab, who shares the narrative of his peculiar life over a series of confessional visits. This is an American Indian revenge story written by one of the new masters of horror, Stephen Graham Jones.

The Buffalo Hunter Hunter

A last note: Did you know that people named the robin turdus migratorius, which basically means migratory shit, and that bird still chirps happily every morning? It’s honestly inspiring. Don’t let the Man get you down!
